Switching From Zoloft To CBD – What To Know

Switching From Zoloft to CBD

If you are planning on switching from Zoloft To CBD, or any other anti depressants for that matter, there are some very important things to keep in mind.

There are three types of anti-depressants: SSRIs, SNRIs, and NDRIs. Some of the most commonly prescribed antidepressants are called re uptake inhibitors. What’s re uptake? It’s the process in which neurotransmitters are naturally reabsorbed back into nerve cells in the brain after they are released to send messages between nerve cells. A re uptake inhibitor prevents this from happening. Instead of getting reabsorbed, the neurotransmitter stays — at least temporarily — in the gap between the nerves, called the synapse.

Benefits of Switching from Anti Depressants

What’s the benefit? The basic theory is that it helps keep levels of the neurotransmitters higher and attempts to improve communication between the nerve cells — and that can strengthen circuits in the brain which regulate mood.

Selective serotonin re uptake inhibitors (SSRIs) are some of the most commonly prescribed antidepressants available. They include citalopram (Celexa), escitalopram (Lexapro), fluvoxamine (Luvox), paroxetine (Paxil), Prozac, and sertraline (Zoloft).

CBD Influence On Receptors

CBD otherwise referred to as Cannabidiol is a naturally occurring cannabinoid found in Cannabis, Hemp and rare strains of Hops and these are Phyto Cannabinoids (plant based). The human body makes Endo-Cannabinoids (made from within). CBD along with other Cannabinoids like CBG (learn more about CBG HERE) influence receptors in the body and brain and can bring on a state of calmness due to the powerful influence to the 5-HT1A Hydroxy tryptamine receptor which is also a Serotonin receptor. This is further compounded by CBD’s ability to activate the Adenosine receptor. This is the biologic reason why people benefit by supplementing CBD into their nutritional protocol.
